Migrate File Information between Servers

Scenario: Migrate File Information from One server to another Keeping all files, all Security and share information, and same drive.

Step 1 – Backup all registry keys related to share information,Check this link.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/141589/en-us

Backup all tree in reg file format

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares, in reg file format.

Step 2 – Use robocopy tool to copy all data to the new server. Also make sore that information security is copied. you can download here robocopy http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17657

Example to copy data from O: to J: –  robocopy o: j: *.* /MIR  /SEC /NP /COPYALL /V /FP /XO /NP /R:1 /W:2 /TEE /LOG+:Copy_o_to_j.txt

Step 3 – After creating Disk and mapping the drive you want run and copied the information run the reg file that you created in the new server.

Step 4 – Restart lanmanserver service.

Step 5 – Check if all shares are available, and if all the information is there.
